The Suffolk News-Herald reported today that there is a meeting set for Wednesday at 5:00 to 7:30 pm in the Golden Leaf Commons, 1300 Greensville County Circle, in Emporia to discuss an alternative route through Suffolk for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. The natural gas pipeline is set to run from West Virginia to North Carolina, which would include portions of Suffolk, Franklin/Southampton County, and/or Brunswick County. One of the considerations taken into account is "landowner considerations." Under the Takings Clause, a government must show that the taking of property must be for public use, as defined by statute and court cases. Further, if the government makes the showing, they must also provide just compensation. Before the government requires you to sacrifice your land for what they determine to be the "greater good," you should seek local, experienced counsel from Western Tidewater legal professionals to guide you in how to protect your rights. The Western Tidewater attorneys of Randall Page stand ready to help you protect your land rights.
